IP Community Service Awards

About the IP Community Service Awards

The Intellectual Property Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service is given every three years to an individual who has a role in the field of intellectual property and who has made a lasting impact on society through significant contributions to community service.

The Intellectual Property Community Service Awards were initiated in 2010 by the Georgia State University College of Law's Intellectual Property Advisory Board. The program transitioned to the Georgia Intellectual Property Alliance upon its founding in 2018.

Award Criteria

In the spring of the year of the awards, a call for nominations is made asking for individual names and an explanation of why the nominee is deserving of the award. Nominees should:

  • Be a member of the IP community, such as an IP attorney, paralegal, assistant, educator, business person, entrepreneur, inventor, or otherwise involved with intellectual property in their career or other endeavors;

  • Demonstrate a commitment to community service with a longstanding record of, or recent significant contribution to, the community;

  • Successfully motivate others to contribute to community service; and

  • Display a high degree of ethics, professionalism, and character.

A selection committee then reviews the nominees to select the recipients, who are then honored at a reception during Georgia's IP Month in October.
